Do Not Spray Lysol in a Dog's Eye [Please]

The occasional joys of finding BzzReports in our system that show signs of a very active imagination...or a very, very dark side.

WOM Report [from our new "General Cleaning Product" Campaign]:

I was at the local “bark park” the other day just chatting and making conversation with some of the dog owners there when the topic of German Shepherds came up. This one lady was saying that she’s really afraid of them and would never want to have one as a pet, which for me was a perfect segue into sharing some of the success that I’ve continued to have with the Lysol Mildew Remover I’ve been using all over the house. I told her that while it’s supposed to just be for removing mildew I’ve been using it everywhere. On countertops, on floors, even on my mailbox out front. Well she said, “What does that have to do with shepherds?” and I explained that while I was cleaning my mailbox one of my neighbor’s German Shepherds must have gotten out and it was obviously in a harassing mood. “Who knows,” I said, “It may have even been rabid.”

I went on to explain that it was sniffing around the whole neighborhood and when it saw me it started to come towards me. Well, I’m not much of a German Shepherd fan either so I explained that I sprayed the dog in the face with the Lysol Mildew Remover when it got close. They all asked what had happened. So I said it was great. The stuff worked like a dream. The dog started wailing and scratching at his eyes and face and was running all over like a chicken with his head cut off. And then it ran into my mailbox post and fell over dead. I said I didn’t know if it was because of the mildew remover or if was just blunt force trauma, but the dog sure stopped bothering me. I then buried it out back so the neighbor wouldn’t know it was me who had killed their rabid dog. So I told her that as long as she’s got Lysol Mildew Remover with her (it comes in a beach version also) she doesn’t have to worry about German Shepherds. That and it works really well for cleaning mailboxes too. The group kinda broke up after that, but I bet they all sure remembered to pick up some Lysol Mildew Remover on the way home.

Phoning in the Guilt Game
Wednesday, November 23 2005 @ 01:59 PM EST
Contributed by: kbever

So for the past few months, I have been running the Firefly Mobile Phone BzzCampaign. Everyone got free phones and 30 minutes of access. Probably one of our best programs ever. Well, in the beginning I was pretty bummed, believe it or not, because after the program had been live for a few weeks and everyone had received this amazing product (at the client's cost), only 45% of the participating Agents had filed reports. As you can imagine, I was pretty bummed. In fact, I found myself getting angry. I mean, how could you get something like that for free and then not file at least one report out of sheer gratitude (or guilt ;)

Anyhow, I decided that I was going to fight the good fight on this one and that I was going to do everything in my power to get people to report. After my first week of disappointment, I decided to send the Agents a heart felt email, asking them why they weren't reporting - how they could not be bzzing up a storm (good or bad), about this product. It practically bzzes itself. After that one email, activity levels jumped 20% to 63% and then crept up a few percentage points the week after. So, the guilt game worked....

You think I may have stopped here, but I didn't. Throughout the entire rest of the campaign, a reminder email along with a news story or interesting fact. I also made sure to tell the Agents how they were performing. After activity level stopped at 67% and me still believing we could do better, I sent one more heartfelt cry out to the Agents. And, do you know what? They listened. Activity levels went up another 10%. Now, I don't know if this happened because I was harrassing the Agents by email, or that they truly felt guilty, had a lot to bzz, and decided to take the time and tell us about their conversations.

The long and short of it is, this campaign is now one of our most successful. But, what I am wondering (and this is a question for all of you agents), is the following:

  • Do you just need more reminders to report?
  • Do you feel any guilt at all when you get something for free from BzzAgent's client and you never file a report?
  • Do you think that your activity level on campaigns effects your Agent rating/standing in the community and your eligibility for future programs?

We just want to make sure that we, at the Central Hive, are doing everything we can to engage you and keep you active, and we are open to your opinions and ideas to help make this happen!

Happy Turkey Day,

Kristen B. VP of Strategy
